ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Joel Abdallah, Author
Hi, I’m Joel. I joined the consulting industry almost 2 years ago. I have a background in engineering and finance. From an early age, I have had a passion for working with numbers and solving riddles. Growing up, I spent over three years playing professional basketball, so you can bet I’m a competitive spirit. A few years ago, I took the GMAT and scored a 50 on the quant section.
My journey into consulting began with intensive case interview preparation, where I solved over 100 cases, and gave over 200. I successfully passed all 10 interviews I undertook, acing a total of 9 market sizing questions. As a result, I received multiples offers and had the luxury to choose the firm I want to join. Now, I am heavily involved in recruiting at my company, where I continue to fuel my passion for case-solving.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Did you know that if you are preparing for a consulting interview, there is about a 70% chance you will encounter a Market Sizing question? What is even more surprising is that, despite how common these questions are, there isn’t a single resource out there that truly breaks down the theory and process behind solving them.
I say this after months of research. I have been in your position before, looking for the perfect guide to help me master Market Sizing questions. I followed all the so-called experts, but their advice often felt overly simplistic. I remember one popular consulting guru saying: “Preparing for Market Sizing is easy—just look around you and estimate anything in the room." While that is useful in theory, what if you are not naturally good at estimation or need a more structured approach? Plus, what if you are interviewing with a partner in a specific industry and want to prepare for Market Sizing questions tailored to that field? Wouldn’t it be great if there was a resource with industry-specific questions?
That is exactly why I created this guide—one that I used during my own preparation and am now sharing with you. Here is how it works:
First, I categorize the different types of Market Sizing questions you might encounter and walk you through a clear, step-by-step approach to tackle each one. Once you have mastered the method, I present and solve 40 detailed Market Sizing questions, divided across 8 industries, so you can practice industry-specific questions. I also introduce a set of math techniques and shortcuts to help you save time and seriously impress your interviewer. Finally, I have included a Fact Sheet with tips on memorizing key information in advance.
Here is my promise: By the end of this book, if you put in the effort, not only will you have the skills to tackle Market Sizing like a pro, but you will also strengthen your overall consulting interview toolkit, giving you the skills to excel in every aspect of a case.
One final note: I believe this guide is for anyone looking to sharpen their analytical skills, enhance their math abilities, and develop a structured approach to problem-solving. These are critical skills that are highly relevant across industries, making this guide a valuable resource no matter where your career takes you!
